Livermore-Amador Symphony
Musicians
There are abundant role models among the Symphony musicians—lots of people who live rich, productive lives. They range in age from teenagers to the elderly. Many have played in the orchestra for years; in fact, violin players JoAnn Cox and Virginia McFann have played in the orchestra since its beginning in the early 1960s! Many are music teachers and/or are affiliated with other music groups. For example, clarinet player Kathy Boster teaches music for the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District, and LAS rehearsals are usually in her classroom; assistant conductor and horn player Bob Williams conducts the Pleasanton Community Concert Band.
Most of the Symphony musicians reside in Livermore, California, or in the adjacent city of Pleasanton. Almost all of the others come from various San Francisco Bay Area cities and towns in the East or South Bay, but a couple are from outside the Bay Area, in the Central Valley over the hills just east of Livermore.
Learn more about our music director and conductor, Arthur Barnes (who commutes to Livermore from Stanford, by the way), our assistant conductor, and our concertmaster. A list of orchestra members and soloists is here, and rehearsal info is here.
