Join the Orchestra!

Welcome! We are always interested in finding new players, particularly those in the string section. Cellos and violas are in special demand!

Please contact the Symphony's orchestra manager, Virginia McFann: Fill out the simple application form and send it to her, or contact her by phone at (925) 447-8789 about your interest in the orchestra. She'll be delighted to hear from you. Even if the orchestra section appropriate for you is full, your name can be added to a list of possible substitutes—and besides, we want to know that you're out there, as Virginia says.

Auditions are possible but historically unlikely: this is a community orchestra, after all, and giving local musicians a chance to play is one of the goals. (Constantly striving to improve our music "product" is another goal.) The conductor and the concertmaster do have the discretion to request an audition.

There is also an opportunity to play in the Livermore-Amador Symphony pit orchestra for Valley Dance Theatre performances of The Nutcracker ballet each December. The pit orchestra often performs at VDT's mid-year shows, too. For more information (and to get on his list of contacts!) e-mail the pit orchestra conductor, Bob Williams, at hrw1114@comcast.net or speak to him at a regular LAS rehearsal. (He's one of the horn players and also the LAS assistant conductor.) In 2011, VDT will have seven public performances of The Nutcracker at the Bankhead Theater from December 10–18; shows begin at 2 p.m. or 7 p.m. Since few people (except Bob) are in the pit at all of the performances, there is usually a need for so many orchestra players that you ought to contact him whether you join the "regular" Livermore-Amador Symphony or not.
